The Greater Essex County District School Board believes that learning begins at birth.
Our Parenting and Family Literacy Centres welcome all children 0 - 6 years of age along with their parents and caregivers. The Centres are free and no registration is required. Families may stay as long as they wish. Come join us for play, songs, a healthy snack, fun, learning and more.
Parenting and Family Literacy Centres help prepare children for school and encourage families to play an active role in their children’s learning by:
Helping children build essential literacy and numeracy skills through stories, music, reading and play
Encouraging and supporting families as they engage in their child’s learning
Offering a book-lending library in different languages so parents can read to their children in their first language
Familiarizing children and families with school routines
Giving children and families the chance to spend time with other families
Linking families with appropriate community resources for special needs, health and other related services
Our Parenting and Family Literacy Centres have established partnerships with The Public Health Unit, Children First, Best Start, Talk 2 Me, Food Banks, and many other child care and family services located in the Greater Essex County area. Together we work towards a common goal of optimizing success for all children while supporting their families.
