An Overview of the Role of the Learning Support Teacher (LST):
- to work with and support students who have been formally identified with a learning disorder through the IPRC process
- to collaborate with staff and parents to develop specific strategies to help identified students be successful in the classroom
The LST is Responsible for:
- developing the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) which is the document that outlines the accommodations and supports the student will receive
- sharing and reviewing the IEP requirements with the student’s classroom teachers
- answering questions/concerns related to the student’s individual IEP and the IEP process
- ensuring the student’s needs are being met in their classrooms
- monitoring the student’s academic progress
- assisting students to develop their self advocacy skills surrounding their needs and learning disorder
- ongoing communication with parents regarding their child’s progress and development

Role of the Student Success Teacher
An Overview of the Role of the Student Success Teacher (SST)
Meetings
- To work with and support at risk secondary students who are not formally identified as having and IEP
- Organize and facilitate transition meetings with Family of Schools
- Transitions
- Meet with Grade 7 & 8 classes and provide early opportunity to begin the transition to high school by providing activities to engage students
Secondary Support
- Work collaboratively with staff members to identify Student Success clients
- Collect and analyze relevant data on Student Success clients
- Monitor progress of Student Success clients
- Work collaboratively with Student Success School Team to develop individualized plans for students identified as at-risk
- Monitor Student Success clients and revise plans as required
- Facilitate opportunities for students at risk of losing credits to participate in Credit Rescue
- Work collaboratively with Guidance to identify students who may benefit from Credit Recovery
- Assist with implementation of Ministry/Board initiatives
- Provide one-on-one support and/or classroom support to Student Success Clients, as needed
Communication & Reporting
- Work collaboratively with staff members to identify Student Success clients
- Collect and analyze relevant data on Student Success clients
- Monitor progress of Student Success clients and revise plans as required
