June 2022
Principal’s Message
It is funny how this time of year travels so much faster than the rest of the year. It is hard to believe we are at the end of the 2021-2022 school year already. Reopening and being able to return to so much activity has kept us so busy. As we reflect on the accomplishments of our students, we celebrate that together, they have gained resiliency, kindness, and the value of togetherness when things are challenging.
We wish all of our students, families, and staff a wonderful and restful summer. We also wish our Grade 8 graduates tremendous success in all they reach for! We are so proud of each one of them. May you continue to create beautiful memories in your lives. Remember that your Centennial Central family loves you and you will always call this place your home!
We are saying goodbye to Mrs. Fratarcangeli who will be retiring. We thank her for her many years of service and wish her a beautiful journey with her new four-legged friend! We also are saying goodbye to Heather Powell who will be moving to Talbot Trail and Shaylee O’Neil who will be off to King Edward. We thank them for all of the support and kindness they have given our students. We say goodbye to Lisa Hamelin, our Special Education Co-ordinator, who will be leaving our school and we wish her well in her future endeavours. I would also like to send my goodbye and warmest wishes to my Comber community. It has been the most challenging 2 years of my career as we navigated through a pandemic but there is no other place I would rather have been but with all of you. Thank you for the support and kindness. I welcome Chris Konrad to Centennial Central Public School as your principal in September. He is eager and enthusiastic to serve this community.
Office Reopens
Our office reopens on Monday, August 22nd. Mrs. Omstead will reach out to our new registrations from over the summer as we begin to reopen the last 2 weeks of August. The first day of school is Tuesday, September 6th.
Keeping in Touch Throughout the Summer
If you are in need of getting in touch with our school throughout the summer, please call the board office at 519 255-3200 and they will be able to assist.

New Registrations
Comber is growing and that’s awesome! I appreciate this community and the positive messages that many of you send out via social media, word of mouth, etc. so that our new residents to Comber will choose their community school, Centennial Central Public School. We have a number of new families registering and many of them tell us at the office that you have highly recommended us. Thank you! If you meet any new neighbours throughout the summer, please let them know that they can register on the publicboard.ca website. When Mrs. Omstead, our secretary, returns in August, she will make contact with them. Thank you so much for your support!
Staff for 2022-2023

EQAO
EQAO assessment is right around the corner for us at CCPS. We are one of the first schools to write the assessment on May 4, 5, and 6. Thank you for supporting our students in Grades 3 and Grades 6.
School Day
Just a reminder that our school day starts at 9:10 each morning. If your family does not ride the bus, please be mindful to be at school after 8:55 in time for the morning bell. Additionally, we ask that students, as much as possible, remain in class until dismissal at 3:30. We certainly understand that mid-day appointments are unavoidable at times. It seems that there are calls made into the office in the afternoon for pick-up more than usual. Thank you for consideration when scheduling of appointments avoiding early pick-up as much as possible.
Pajamas Donations Continue
As we are so proud of what we accomplished prior to the holidays we continue to welcome new infant and children’s pajamas to be donated for the remainder of the school year. As we collect them, one of our parents, will have them prepared with a zipper for the port access and they will be sent off to London Hospital. I will leave a bin in the main hall for donations that your student can drop off a new pair of pajamas. Thank you for your consideration.
Allergy Alert
Please do not send your child to school with peanuts, tree nuts or nut products. We ensure our learning environment is safe for all of our students. Thank you for keeping the communication between home and school a priority. Your student's teachers can be reached through Edsby messages. You may also wish to call the school to speak to Mrs. Omstead our school secretary or myself through the school day.
The most exciting time of the year is coming up. Kindergarten registration begins in February but anyone can register at any time! Simply go to publicboard.ca to register. Crossing Safely
It has come to my attention that some of our CCPS students are not crossing Main Street where our crossing guards are located. I ask that you speak with your students (if they are walkers) and ensue that they are crossing safely with our crossing guard at the corners of Taylor and McAllaster and McAllaster and Main Street.
Kindergarten Registration
If you know of a child who will be 4 or 5 years old by December 31, 2022 they will be eligible to come to Junior or Senior Kindergarten this September. Please register your younger children or let neighbours and the community know that we are a great place to learn and grow. Registering sooner than later allows us the opportunity to staff our school appropriately. Staffing begins soon and getting students registered sooner helps us tremendously.
Our Kindergarten Open House is virtual this year. A link will be shared for Wednesday, February 23rd.
Daily Covid Assessment
It is with great appreciation that all our families are completing the daily covid assessment. On occasion, a reminder to a few families is sent out. Our staff and students thank you all for the partnership throughout this pandemic. Together we are stronger.
Parent/Guardian Teacher Interviews
Your student's report card will be arriving home on Monday, February 14.
We will be conducting interviews virtually or on the telephone this round. Interview times will be posted on Edsby on Monday, February 14th.
You are welcome to sign up for an interview which are scheduled Thursday, February 17th beginning at 4:00 p.m. Your child's teacher will let you know if interviews will be by telephone and/or a Teams meeting.
Popcorn Fundraiser
We thank our community for supporting our What's Poppin fundraiser. We received a cheque for just over $2000 in profit towards the school. The money is given to our SAC who generously support our students throughout the year. Our Pizza Party for the entire school is scheduled for Thursday, February 17th. No need to pack an afternoon lunch. Each student will receive one piece of pizza, cookies, and juice. Thank you SAC for purchasing this lunch for our students and staff. We are grateful.
Child Can
The new pajamas that we collected prior to the holidays are going to London Children's Hospital through an organization called "Child Can". The pajamas were fitted with a zipper in the front so that when children need to have a port put in their chest (in order for them to receive medication) it is easier to access.
The pajamas are in individual bags ready to go up to London to be put in isolation so that children can safely receive the pajamas. The organizer of this is a parent whose child had cancer and was faced with a long hospital stay. This family realizes how special receiving a pair of new pajamas is for these children and families. We thank you so very much for your donations! Our students are busy creating cards to attach to these bags with words of inspiration and kindness. Families are thrilled when special notes are sent to their children while they receive treatment in the hospital as it brings them great joy. Way to go CCPS Cougars!
Pajamas Donations Continue
As we are so proud of what we accomplished prior to the holidays we are now going to welcome new infant and children's pajamas to be donated for the remainder of the school year. As we collect them, one of our parents, will have them prepared with a zipper for the port access and they will be sent off to London Hospital. I will leave a bin in the main hall for donations that your student can drop off a new pair of pajamas. Thank you for your consideration.
Cold Weather
A reminder that all students go outdoors at least twice per day. We also take advantage of our beautiful backyard and go outdoors for DPA and Physical Education. Some classes go for walks around our property. Please take a moment to check the weather for the day with your family to plan for the day.
We recommend that you pack extra mittens, socks, and a hat in your student's backpack in case one of these items gets wet throughout the day. When there is snow on the ground or even on the colder days, we highly recommend having students wear snow pants and boots. We have several winter coats in size small and medium, a few pair of boots and snow pants. If your family is in need of any winter clothing, please message your student's teacher or myself to see how we may assist.
Allergy Alert
Please do not send your child to school with peanuts, tree nuts or nut products. We want to create a learning environment that is safe for all of our students. If you child requires an inhaler, epipen, or has a medical condition we need to be aware of, call me immediately to set up a Plan of Care. All medications stored and administered at school MUST have a physician's consent. Mrs. Omstead and I have the forms
Carnival
Mme. Mahon and our Grade 8 leaders are preparing Carnival for each cohort for the week of February 7th. Date is coming soon. We are looking at ensuring there is good snow outdoors for several of the activities. Please ensure your student is dressed warmly, is wearing boots, and snow pants.
Photography Club
Thank you Mrs. Morden and staff for continuing with our Photography Club. If your student is interested, have them Edsby message Mrs. Morden to join.
Recipes
Just a reminder that if you are interested in sharing a favourite recipe (students, families, community) please email: [email protected] to submit your favourite. We are putting them altogether for a CCPS Recipe Book. Please contribute!

November Newsletter
From the Principal’s Desk
A sincere thank you for completing your daily covid assessment for each child. It is a requirement from our Windsor Essex County Health Unit. Students cannot ride on the bus or enter the school building without having the assessment completed. Teachers can provide a paper copy if this works best. As I write this message, we have almost 100% support on this safety measure. Sincerest thank you!
We hope you enjoyed our Meet the Staff video which could be seen on Edsby. We also posted our virtual September assembly and our October virtual assembly is coming up.
Our staff continue to work very hard at ensuring that all students are feeling safe, welcomed, and belong at our school. Our focus on well-being continues and we sincerely appreciate the ongoing communication between your student’s teacher and home. This is essential to ensure each child’s success. Our Kindness Week is coming up November 15-19th however, we talk about and spread kindness throughout CCPS on a daily basis. We asked the students to vote on the most valuable character traits and Kindness and Perseverance were the winners. Staff embed lessons and discussions on all traits regularly. We also have a Grade 8 leader team who are also planning for school-wide events. Grade 8 Leaders have also organized most recently, Halloween fun. They are looking towards monthly fun activities. We had the fortunate opportunity for our Junior and Intermediate students to participate in a virtual session with Charmaine Reid. She shared her motivational speech on goal setting and achievement. She spoke about her Olympic experience and discussed the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. Charmaine also went over some badminton shots, rules and took questions from the students. We received free badminton equipment as well.
Our Remembrance Day Virtual assembly is coming out on Thursday, November 11th. Several classes are involved and school-wide activities around remembering those who served are being organized.
Please follow us on twitter @HoffmanSartor, on Edsby, and on our school website page by going to publicboard.ca then to our school’s page. Masks at School and on the Bus
Students have been doing an awesome job in wearing their masks while in the school building and on the bus. We have disposable student masks at school if a student does not have a mask or has soiled their mask. All students Kindergarten to Grade 8 are now required to wear masks while in the school building and on the bus. All Physical Education classes take place outdoors as masks are not required for students while outdoors. When the weather becomes colder, low impact activities (stretching, walking movements) can be performed in the gym with masks on. We are mindful to ensure that students are not completing strenuous activity while wearing masks.
Bus Safety
We continue to remind our students to follow all safety rules on the bus. We remind students to remain seated at all times, face forward, keep voices to a normal level, and follow the instructions the bus driver provides. When getting on and off the bus, wait for the bus driver to signal you that it is safe to cross the road. The bus driver is sitting higher and can see what is happening on the road. Be patient and wait for their instructions.
We invite you to go to this link to review bus safety with your child:
https://buskids.ca/safety.html
Dismissal Changes...
For the safety of your child, if you are changing your child’s end of the day routine please inform the office before 12:00 pm. When parents call the school at the end of the day, there is no guarantee that we will be able to contact your child with new arrangements during our busy dismissal process. Thank you for supporting student safety!
Our Snack Program
Our snack program is running and is fabulous. We receive free fruits and vegetables from the Ontario Student Nutrition Program and from Pure Flavor. We are grateful. We have begun to purchase some protein and carbohydrate foods and are waiting to see if we will be receiving more funding.
A reminder to ensure each student has a refillable water bottle to use each day. We have 2 water fill stations to use throughout the day.
Colder Weather Coming
A reminder that all students go outdoors at least twice per day. Please take a moment to check the weather for the day with your family to plan for the day. We are also having Physical Education classes outdoors (weather permitting) as students do not wear masks outdoors. If we are in the gym, masks are worn but low-intensity exercises take place (stretching, walking, skill development with low impact).
Allergy Alert
Please do not send your child to school with peanuts, tree nuts or nut products. We want to create a learning environment that is safe for all of our students. If you child requires an inhaler, epipen, or has a medical condition we need to be aware of, call me immediately to set up a Plan of Care. All medications stored and administered at school MUST have a physician’s consent. Mrs. Omstead and I have the forms.
Audrey’s Clubhouse
(519) 322-1801 - Audrey’s Clubhouse provides before and after school child care right here at Centennial Central Public School. Please call Erin Ouellette, the owner, if you have any questions.
Edsby for Parents
If you are not yet set up on Edsby, please call Mrs. Omstead, our school secretary, immediately with your email address so we may invite you. Ensure to look in your inbox and junk mail (sometimes your email subscriber places the invite in there) and accept the invitation. It usually takes up to 24 hours for the invite to take place. Important announcements, messages, and your child’s teacher correspond through Edsby. Thank you for setting it up as soon as possible. You can even place your child’s absence on Edsby and schedule Parent/Teacher interviews in November on Edsby!
Thank You!
A continued thank you for being such an awesome community supporting our school in so many ways. Our staff takes great pride in being a part of the Centennial Central Public School. Our family approach makes us stronger together.
Safety First
Here are some things that help keep us safe. Please review with your child.
Hand Washing
Students will disinfect/wash their hands multiple times per day:
Before entering the school (at home)
After entering the school
After using the washroom
Before and after eating
Before and after going outside
Before exiting the building
Practicing how to wash hands at home is encouraged. Children should spend 20 seconds washing their hands.
- Wet hands with warm water
- Be sure to use lots of soap
- Lather for 15-20 seconds—clean wrists, palms, back of hands, and between fingers
- Rinse with warm water
- Dry hands
Respiratory Etiquette
If a student sneezes or coughs into their hands while not wearing a mask outdoors, droplets remain on the skin which can be spread to other people or surfaces.
Sneeze or cough into your elbow or into a tissue
Dispose of the tissue
Wash your hands or sanitize
Physical Distancing
Students will participate in social distancing while at school. Classroom spaces have been arranged so that social distancing is encouraged. Students will:
Stay to the right side of the hallways using the arrows on the floor
Stay 3 steps behind the person in front of them
