School history
- David Maxwell Public School was constructed in 1928 and officially opened on January 3, 1929. The school was named in honour of Dr. David A. Maxwell M.A. Ph.D.
- The original building consisted of 13 classrooms with a gymnasium, offices and a nurse's room. Due to a tremendous increase in student population the structure known as "The Bungalows" began construction on October 26, 1950. The building was occupied on April 9, 1951 and housed the Kindergarten classes. On January 18, 1951 construction began on two more classrooms. On September 24, 1951 this addition was occupied by Grade 1 classes. This building is currently known as Ska:Na Day Care.
- On February 15, 1955 construction began on a four room addition at the south end of the existing building. These rooms were occupied on September 6, 1955.
- On Sunday, February 27, 1983 at approximately 8 pm., a fire erupted in the offices and lobby area. Damage was estimated at $50,000.
- 2020 Construction began to update David Maxwell's interior and exterior.
- David Maxwell school always holds high the fine standards so ably exemplified by the late Dr. David A. Maxwell M.A. PhD. There have been many outstanding teachers and students who have passed through this school.
- We are home of the Mustangs.
