The Student of the Month for December is Ozegho Aliu, a Grade 10 student at Tecumseh Vista Academy, She is an outstanding role model for the theme of “collaboration”.
Ozegho's basketball coach and teacher shared a story of the power of Ozegho’s collaboration skills. When trying to put together the Junior Girls team this fall, the coach approached Ozegho, despite her being a complete stranger to the game of basketball. Known as a key player who led the Junior Girls Soccer team to a WECSSA victory last year, the basketball coach recognized that Ozegho’s collaborative nature would translate to success on the basketball court. Ozegho quickly became an “instrumental player” on the basketball team. Her coach attributes this to her hard work and dedication, but in the end, her collaboration skills are what make her such an amazing player and teammate.
Ozegho transfers her collaboration skills to every activity is she is involved in. In the classroom, she works well with everyone and completes the tasks at hand with a smile on her face. A classmate attests to this by saying, “Ozegho’s empowering words help everyone work together and achieve success”.
Ozegho was selected to attend Youth Leadership Camp this fall where she learned how the best leaders are those who are able to uplift their fellow students. Ozegho is supportive of her peers, using active listening skills, empathy and understanding which enable her to effectively collaborate with any group of students, regardless of the task. Ultimately, Ozegho is the person who everyone wants on their team and is a valued member the Vortex family.
Congratulations Ozegho for being selected by Student Senate as the December Student of the Month for “collaboration”!
