The Student of the Month for September is Rowan Alice, a Grade 12 student at Walkerville Collegiate Institute who displays exceptional qualities of our theme of “athleticism”. Rowan is a gifted athlete and is passionate about active living. Last year, Rowan made the point to engage in every school sport he could and support the ones he couldn’t. He single-handedly established a soccer team at Walkerville, he is a star volleyball player and enthusiastically supported the track and field team. Rowan came to track practices faithfully and brought the team’s spirits up. He even helped to train students and assisted the coaches. During his Grade 9 year at Tecumseh Vista, he prematurely joined the Senior Football team and came less than a second from matching Gage Marshall’s 100-meter sprint record.
Outside of school, Rowan is an active member of Windsor Rock Gym and plays on a travel volleyball team. He is a great teammate with exceptional sportsmanship who stands by his team while cracking jokes and keeping everyone in a good mood. Rowan has also been involved in the school play, working out in the weight room or in the gym in between rehearsals. He is a people person, encouraging friends to try out for sports teams, go on runs with him, play games after school and more. Rowan juggles the arts and sports, displaying a wonderful example of being a student athlete. Congratulations Rowan for being selected as Student Senate’s Student of the Month for “athleticism”.
