The new, public K-8 school on Tecumseh Road will be a guiding light for education in the area. Construction of the building began in 2022, at a cost of $22,500,000. On February 20th the GECDSB Board of Trustees approved the name Beacon Heights Public School. Both titular words, which comprise the name, are metaphoric in nature and meaningful, educationally.
A beacon is a light which provides direction as well as being a source of inspiration. Heights is the extreme, vertical point of a structure and a level of aspiration.
It is hoped the name will be a reminder and a motivation to students, who will begin attending the new school in September, 2024. It will accommodate 651 students.
