The Student of the Month for December is Carter Gannon, a Grade 11 student at Sandwich Secondary School. Carter is an excellent role model for this month’s theme of “environmental stewardship”.
Carter is dedicated to caring and advocating for the natural environment. He takes great interest in often-overlooked creatures. Passionate about helping insects, Carter often relocates worms displaced by heavy rain or drought. He also raises native butterflies at home and takes care to nurture them until they are mature enough to be released.
Carter helps combat climate change one planting at a time. He has volunteered to plant trees in local parks and even in his own backyard as he understands their many vital functions including absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. He has also planted a variety of native plants which help provide food and shelter for animals, birds and insects. Carter takes part in local trail cleanups and regularly visits local rivers and creeks to pick up trash. He also manages his family's recycling and controls their plastic usage. Carter is a shining example of a passionate environmental steward who takes action to protect the earth.
Congratulations Carter for being selected as Student Senate’s Student of the Month for the theme of “environmental stewardship”.
