The Student of the Month for February is Sarah Ahmed, a Grade 12 student at Vincent Massey Secondary School, a remarkable role model for this month’s theme of “creativity”.
Sarah has pursued every opportunity to develop her artistic skills at Massey. In addition to taking as many visual arts classes as she can, she is a member of the Art Club. She lends her creativity to many events at Massey and her talents have also made a significant impact in the larger community
Last year, Sarah was appointed as the Art Executive for the Children’s Holiday Party. She contributed more than 170 hours of volunteer work, designing beautiful decorations, hosting a face-painting station and coordinating art-based activities to make the holiday event special.
Sarah is a member of the Believe Leadership Club where she brought her passion project to life. Sarah founded the “Craft a Smile” initiative, crocheting keychains and stuffed animals for Windsor’s Downtown Mission in an effort to spread joy. The project was a success and earned her first place in Massey’s Inspiration Fair, a competition showcasing student passion projects. This qualified Sarah to present her project at the Spring 2022 Collective Fair, a national convention for artistic passion projects.
But Sarah didn’t stop there. Her passion for making a difference led her to co-found the Crochet Club at Massey. It provides a creative space for Masseys artists and introduces beginners to the art of crochet. Since Gr. 10, Sarah has served as co-president, leading efforts to create and donate stuffed animals and blankets to those in need.
In the community, Sarah volunteers at senior homes, decorating for special events and leading craft activities. She also has an Instagram account to share her artwork with the greater community. Sarah’s commitment to creativity and community has left a significant mark on Massey and beyond.
Congratulations Sarah for being selected by Student Senate as the February Student of the Month for the theme of “creativity”!
