The Student of the Month for January is Kamora Buzek, a Grade 11 student at Kingsville District High School. Kamora is an outstanding example of this month’s theme of “perseverance”.
There are few students at Kingsville District High School who demonstrate perseverance as well as Kamora Buzek. During Kingsville’s Student Council meeting to select a nominee for the characteristic of perseverance, everyone in the room immediately had her name in mind.
Kamora has faced many challenges throughout her life, whether it be on the basketball court, at school or in her personal life, and she has consistently shown that she can bounce back no matter what happens.
While playing on the Junior Girls’ basketball team at SWOSSA last year she stayed on the court for the entire game, despite suffering from a bad sickness, helping her team win the gold medal. A teammate described her as, “...someone you can always depend on during a game, since you know whatever obstacles are thrown her way, she will be able overcome them.”
Kamora has faced even greater challenges in her personal life. Since she was two years old, her mother has been battling cancer. Kamora continued to face life and is involved, as much as possible and unafraid, regardless of frequent hospital visits and tests.
As her mother’s cancer progressed, Kamora kept on top of her schoolwork, participated in many school sports and never made any mention of the things she was dealing with at home. During her mother’s funeral this past December, Kamora remained resolute and grateful for her classmates, teachers and friends who had come to show their support during that difficult time.
Like her mom, Kamora Buzek is a shining example of perseverance. She is truly deserving of this recognition and Kingsville District High School is proud to have her as a fellow Cavalier.
Congratulations Kamora for being selected by Student Senate as the January Student of the Month for the theme of “perseverance”.
