Alice Aspinall's teaching style is both thoughtful and innovative. And worthy of a 2021 Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) for the Walkerville Collegiate Institute math teacher.
The annual award "recognizes inspirational science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) teachers at the elementary or secondary school level who keep students engaged in STEM learning and who help develop the culture of innovation that Canada needs today, and in the future."
Ms. Aspinall has been distinguished, as stated in her citation, for "breaking down the reputation of the traditional mathematics class – one that is intimidating, discouraging, and non-collaborative. Instead, Alice creates an atmosphere in which students can be excited about math, are comfortable asking questions, and embrace the journey of turning mistakes into learning opportunities."

Ms. Aspinall has been previously honoured in 2018 with a GECDSB Outstanding Service Award.
