The Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB) finalized a new secondary school in the Town of Amherstburg that consolidated General Amherst High School and Western Secondary School. The new school accomodates 816 students and was approved by the Ministry of Education in 2016.
Location
The new school is located on the south side of Centennial Park off Simcoe St., between Fryer St. and Victoria St. The land was purchased by GECDSB from the Town of Amherstburg.
This is a central location and will allow a similar number of students to walk to school.
Timeline
Construction for the new school began in November of 2020 and the school opened in September of 2022.
