The Greater Essex County District School Board's (GECDSB) Roads to Freedom resources provide teachers with important background information on African Canadian heritage, culture and contributions to Canadian history. The teaching of African Canadian history is incorporated as an ongoing process throughout the whole school year and not as a single topic of focus or event.
Our Roads to Freedom resources aim to help students of African Canadian descent see themselves as an important part of our social studies and history curriculum. They also help give all students a greater understanding and awareness of the diverse African Canadian stories in our area and throughout Canada.
